Let the fun begin!!

So the last time the hubs and I took a "real" vacation was in OCTOBER of 2007!!!!!

We got a GREAT deal on a flight to Colorado, awesome discount on a rental car and hookup on a condo that we could not pass up in SteamBoat Springs.... it was PERFECT and we totally relaxed and just had an awesome time - except for the snow part.

Quick story:
So the hubs and I land in Denver at around 3 pm and after all the lugagge hoopla go straight to the car rental place to pick up our awesome discount jeep cherokee with 4wd. We get on the road at about 430 or so and start on our 2 1/2 hr drive to Steamboat Springs, CO. As we are driving along, we decide to stop in a little town about 1 and 1/2 hour away from SBS to pick up some snacks/food for our stay in the hookup on a condo that we could not pass up. As we walk to the awesome discount on a rental car we notice that it is starting to snow (also to mention that it is already about 630 and starting to get a little dark out). I decide to drive the rest of the way. As we continue down the road the snow started to come down a little harder and faster - so my driving became longer and slower. Driving on the side of mountains in the dark with snow, not a good thing. So I ended up driving about 3mph for about 3 hrs... no bueno. Not having driven in snow before, I totally had no idea what to do (neither did the hubs) so at one point when I couldnt see anything I turned on the high beams (BAD IDEA) and quickly turned them off. Praying to the Lord above for some kind of miracle, out of nowhere came a snow plow! I followed him for about 20 minutes and then he turned into the darkness.... it was not a good idea. We stopped a couple of times to let the snow do its thing, but decided the longer we waited, the more snow on the ground. In the end, what should have taken 2 and 1/2 hrs, actually took us about 5. That's quite alright in my book because we made it to the hookup on a condo that we could not pass up. ahhhhhh... memories........

During the other years we have taken random "vacations" - like in 2008, we took a week off after we bought our new house to do random stuff house (that was our 'vacation' for that year). In 2009, we ended up taking a week off to just vedge at home as well as go to Louisiana for a few days. Not exactly what I would call VACATION... Actually those are called STAYCATIONS.

Which brings me to 2010 - We talked about different vacations that we could do - New York, Las Vegas, San Antonio, etc.... All were either a) too expensive b) too far or c) too expensive. Well SanAntonio was not that bad, but we would drive and well, we just want to get there right away and vacation, so it was kind of not worth it. I brought up the idea of going on a cruise (something that we have talked about A LOT but never put into action) and the idea was tossed around. When I talked about it in front of some of our good friends, they stated that they had also wanted to go on a cruise (they are cruisers already, but we have never been). So our friends called their cruise guy and from one day to the next - it was ON!!!!

So we are totally going on a cruise!!! YAY!!! It's our first one and we leave on March 25 coming back on March 29!

We somehow got a room right next to our friends AND just happened to mention to our grandparents that we were going on a cruise so they joined along (they are on a different deck as they booked a couple weeks after us)

We are going to have such a great time and can't wait!!! 41 days and counting!

Oh yeah... I almost forgot!

We totally did my dad's party two weeks after my surprise party.
Now that - was AWESOME!!!

Let me tell you what we did.
1) We rented a banquet room at one of the yummiest restaurants in town - Maggiano's
2) We invited about 80 ppl and 65 ppl RSVP'ed - though we called in the final head count as 70
3) We had a 4 course meal with tea, water, hot tea, coffee to drink - as well as red/white wine
4) We made a short movie where I went around and interviewed some friends and family asking them what they thought was my dad's secret to making it to 50
5) had a cardboard cutout made of my dad (super fun! and I used this site - LOVE'd them!)
6) Had a photobooth (using this photographer) with a BUNCH of props for people to use
7) Had a great latin dj play some fun music so ppl could dance it up (if the link doesnt work, let me know if you need his contact info)
8) Ended the night with a big hug/kiss from one of my favorite guys in the whole world (DAD)

So I wish I knew how to do movie postings so I could show you the film that we made (it was HILARIOUS), but in any case here are some pics of the night!

ok.. so this picture is NOT from that night, but these are probably two of my fav guys - besides the hubs of course! (the one on the left was the birthday boy and the one on the right is his older brother)
Cake table with pictures of my dad through out his life.
my stepdad (who ironically is one of my dad's best friends) the hubs and myself.

my younger brother getting ready for the photobooth (loooove the big afro!)
other photobooth goers
the birthday boy getting into the photobooth action (can you see the cardboard cut out on the far left??? - it ended up with a bandana at the end of the night - sooooo funny)
good looking photobooth goers!
The birthday boy (with yellow hardhat) and his main guys (his older brothers and his dad) in the photobooth. These guys look so good!!
I wish I could post more pictures but I can't find my camera's usb thingy... so I will try to get the hubs to figure it out for me and then I will post more.
We had a great time and the restaurant did a great job of making sure we had what we needed. Hat's off to them! The photographer (and my sister) did a great job on the photobooth! They had all the props and we just added the fun!

So much for updates!!

I have been super busy and just plain un-organized, which if you look back to my 2010 post I am supposed to be doing a lot of stuff... well I am doing a lot of stuff, just not the stuff on that list! HA!!!
Ok.. so let me tell you what I have been up to. Well I turned 30 and just in time, the hubs found a grey hair sticking out of my head the other day - I am really an adult now!!!! LOL... I love being 30. I was a little scared to get there, but it's awesome and I have my grey strand of hair to show for it! :)

So my family got together and rented out a small room at Pappasitos and surprised me with a partay of my own! Here are some pics:

So far - 30 is going pretty good. I have had a great deal of fun the last couple of weeks and I think that it all goes up hill from here on out! Stay tuned!

Hasta!
