I've been sick... since Friday.. ugh

So Thursday, I was just fine! Went to Band Practice (in case I haven't told you? the hubbs and I are in the worship band at church) and I was feeling a little scratchy throat and lost it a few times coughing through a song or two, but didn't think much about it. Little did I know - that this:

would be my resting spot for the next 4 days! Seriously! Pierre (our cat) and I held it down trying to get better by chilling on the couch. It was the hardest thing to do since it happened over the weekend... NO BUENO. and then I woke up today still feeling horrible. So I made a dr's appt and I got 1) a shot in the bum! 2) antibiotics 3) inhaler. I am sooo bored at home!!!!

Here is what my little son (kitty) Pierre did on most of those days
I am soo happy to be getting better and to be getting back to normal cause the hubbs and I have vacay next week! We don't have BIG plans, but I can finally have some time just for the hubbs and I. Just for us to hang out, go eat some good food, get outta town, and then finish up some stuff around the house. (which of course I will blog about)
I have to add that the hubbs has been a great nurse. He is wonderful!! He is always checking on me and making sure that I am doing well. I am soooo blessed!!!
Oh and I told you that I would take a pic of the little "buffet" that I got the other day with all the plates on it. I still think it needs more on it or to go another way with it, but... I am not sure - what do you think?

I hope I can get better soon, so I can get this blog up and running back to normal.
Ok. I am going to get back to resting...
Hasta!

Using what you have (or buy)

So this past week has gone by so fast, that I can hardly believe it's almost over! I haven't even posted the GREAT stuff that hubby and I got last weekend when we went thrifting and garage selling. We even stopped at an estate sale!

Here are the goods: We found a GW Select and I was able to snatch up this little lamp (and the shade - but they didn't come together) for $2.99
These plates were from my fav thriftstore (NAM) and they were $4.99 plus 75% off!!!! They are plain white and super heavy - LOVE THEM!

Again, from my fave thriftstore - a little plastic thingy (don't know what you would call this little thing) for $1.99 (50% off) and my very first piece of MILKGLASS!!!!! I am in love! I got this sucker for $2.99 with 75% off!!!

Here is my estate sale find!!! It's beautiful and is really neat! I got all three pieces for $2.53!!! What a steal!
Oh! and this gem! I have been working on getting something for our dining room - our dining room is really tiny and so I thought my idea for the buffet was not going to work - after measuring, fixing up and just getting things together. While we were at the GW Select, I found this cute little thing! It was $5.99 - when I saw that price, I just could NOT believe it!!! I was sold.
Up close you can tell that they took the little table and put the extra piece of wood at the bottom along with little wheels. I didn't need the wheels, as I would have taken it without the extra piece. So I just look at it like BONUS! for me!
I tried to take a pic showing what it looks like from a far. I have also cleaned it up and put plates and such in it since this pic - so I will take that and update it later tonight (if I remember!)
Hasta!

DIY day at ASPTL

So it's been 13 days since my last post and that's ok. I have been busy at home and at work, so I can be forgiven, right? Well now that you have forgiven me, I will let you in on one of the things that kept me busy (which will also be linked in at A Soft Place To Land for the DIY day!)

So before I go into this, keep in mind that I am still new at this diy thing (as well as new to telling people of my diy adventures). I very often forget to take befores or even durings and this was NO exception!

From 8-5, M-F I live in this place called cubicle land. It's pretty drab, but soon I will change that by adding my own personal touches. Anyway, back to the diy part. My WBFF (work best friend) Melly Mel had always said that she wanted a door to her cube. I told her it would be nice to be able to 'close the door' every once in a while and she agreed. Ahh... one can dream.

Well her birthday was coming up and I thought, what better gift than to give her the gift of a cube door! So my wheels started turning and the Friday before her birthday I brought all my supplies in (she had no clue what I was doing) and when she left for the day, I went to work. Here is where my diy picture taking skills are no bueno. I didn't take any befores or durings (and I soooo should have cause it was HILARIOUS)
But here you have it. I totally used the Nester's Mistreatment Idea when I was doing this. NO SEWING involved at all!

I just typed this up on the computer and used a thrifstore frame that I got for 10c about two weeks ago.

Welcome to cubicle land. This is Melly Mel's cube. I had this material that I got from IKEA - I believe it is a table cloth, and it was in the AS IS section and was $1.49 - I cut it in half long ways (so I could keep it's length) and hung it up using actual curtain rod clips. (is that what they are called?

The "rod" is actually two tubes from wrapping paper (so essentially they were free). Oh and if you look in the entry you will see little flag banner. There was more to the decorating than just her new door! Anyway, I also added some tie backs (or whatever you call the things that hold the curtain open) by cutting a small strip off of the bottom of the material and folding it in half. It's held in place by a push pin.

Here is a closeup of the mistreatment as well as the curtain clips and the really bad tape job to hold up the rod and 'hardware' - Hey.. it's diy, you use what you have, right?

Here you can see the mistreatment a little better - seriously if you don't know what that is (mistreatment) go here and find out. It is quite possibly the next best thing since sliced bread (well in the decorating world at least) - I know Kimba!!! ;)

Seriously... who would have thought I could go all diy at work. Melly Mel LOVED it and has been using it quite well. Honestly, since I had done it on Friday night, all weekend it was all I could do not to go into the office and make sure it had not fallen down!
Have fun and congrats on all the diy'ers out there!! You guys really inspire me to keep doing my diy work! :)
Hasta!

Well Then...

I could start today post with the same old same old "I've been busy and sorry I haven't posted" and all that - but truly, I've just been lazy!
I haven't really had anything to blog about this week as I have not gotten any closer to having the craftroom or office of my dreams. I am kind of disappointed in myself as I have high hopes, I just need more stuff to get it accomplished. I will have some stuff this weekend though because my hubby and I will probably wake up early and head on over to the HD to pick up some supplies to get this place to tip top shape.
We are gonna FINALLY tackle the craftroom, home office AND I am adding the garage to the list as well. Our garage is for the most part pretty empty - except for a couple of furniture projects that should get knocked out soon! (I have a friend coming over to do some woodwork and get my stuff ready for me to sand/paint/decorate)
Here are the things we need to get our three rooms a few steps closer to our dreams.

For the CraftRoom:
I know you have seen this beauty! It's from Pottery Barn and it's about $1100.00 - hmm a smidge out of our price range. So hubby made me one like forever ago, but I didn't paint it or anything, so it's still pretty raw. I want to paint and finish it.
I want to put something like this on top of the table to keep my stationary, cards, pencils, pens, etc. I need a couple of these to hold baskets with ribbon, material, scraps, and other stuff.

For the HomeOffice
Really, all we need to do is move some stuff around and organize a bit - this one's pretty much easy but we need the main piece of furniture - the desk! We want to do a partners type desk (you know the kind where two people sit at it with the table in between them.) Our office is pretty small and so I think it would work best. I found these at Ikea (in their catalogue) so I don't know how they would work in real life. We may go by Ikea this weekend to check them out.
For the Garage:
Here it's just about getting stuff off the floor and on to shelves. There really isn't much in this space, so we just need to get the paint cans, tools, and other garagey type stuff off of the ground. For that we need:

For an expensive option, I could go with steel (lasts longer and looks better)
To get it done right away, I could go with the cheaper option... hmm I guess we'll see what hubby says!

Have I told you about my new FABULOUS blog friend?

OMG.. she is absolutely AWESOME. She is a blogger after my own heart! She does this fabulous thing called "clearance shopping" and then tells us about it - in great detail, so that we can find the same deals!!!
Her name is Erin and she is the QUEEN OF CLEARANCE!
She is super cute and has a great eye for clearance/greatly priced items - OH and not to mention her crafting skills... check it:
Just recently she went CVS'ing and got all this loot for under $4 - UH, HELLO???? Have you ever spent below $4 at CVS??? NOT I! I am telling you... she is AWESOME!

She has a love of green glass - check out what she is using this serving dish for - to hold her makeup. She gets it all for super cheap at thriftstores. What about this one - she is being all fancy mcfancypants by decorating AND organizing her ribbon in this beautiful green bowl. I'm telling you!
Ok.. what about this cute cupcake box... the lid comes off to show some storage - how cute would this be in your house???

Seriously - not only is she super de duper - but, she is having a mondo giveaway!! Go on over and check her out!! - Just do a little clicky on this Linky

Happy Clearance Shopping!

PHEW!!! That was a busy one!

Weekend recap!
So it was pretty busy and we did get a lot done. I got to spend some quality time with a great friend (vero) as well as time with my family at the gs! So here is how it played out:

1) Garage Sale (gs) at my aunt's house - Did ok. I didn't have much stuff (surprising) and was still able to rake in about $65.
2) Hopefully picking up LOLA Friday or Sat from the dealer. Picked up Lola (our car) from the dealer as we were told that she would be ready to go - only to find that the person that told us she was ready, in fact did not know that she wasn't ready (confusing??). So we picked her up, but I had to drop her off again this morning! ugh... Good news though - I get to pick her up this afternoon!! PHEW.. I love that car and there is nothing better than driving your OWN car - oh and it could really use a cleaning!
3) Finishing up the craft room - possibly turning it into something else??? We'll see..... Ha ha! NOTHING got done - except that I cleaned it up a bit. I need some shelves in here that I can stack some plastic containers to keep my crafts/wrapping/flower making supplies together and organized.
4) Finishing up the projects in the garage. hmmm - because I spent almost all day Sat in the garage sale mode, I didn't really get to do anything in here. I think I will try to do some stuff in there tonight.
5) Grocery Shopping/CVS'ing somewhere in there. NO grocery shopping - or CVS'ing. I got all my coups and papers together to make my shopping list - so I am hoping to go there tomorrow as the sales at our grocery store end tomorrow night.
6) Church Friday and Sunday. Of course, I would not miss these. We had a great service. The hubby and I are praying for the Lord's guidance on a bunch of stuff and will hold fast to his word.

So that is where we are right now... not much on the organizing front. But much will be done in the next coming weeks as I love working and doing stuff around the house.

Hasta!
Adri.
