poppy?

So I have been trying to make a signature look for myself. Like when I was in college there was a girl in my biology class that ALWAYS wore something pink. I thought it was soo peculiar, but ultimately I was intrigued. So I found these beautiful little accessories and decided to order a few.

I am talking about the thepleatedpoppy and I am in love. They have a new follower and I quite possibly have a new signature... well see - I am going to try it out for a while and see how it goes.

And as such, it is the designer's birthday!!! Check her out and show some love!!!

Happy Birthday PleatedPoppy!!

It's a busy day!!

Two posts in one day?!?!?! Well let me tell you, I just couldn't resist!
A Soft Place to Land is doing an awesome most awesome giveaway on her blog today and I just had to jump in on that offer! If you are not a regular reader of her awesomeness, then get on over there! You are totally missing out!!

She is bragging about a great mommy owned business that does vinyl wall decals... Ok.. I don't think that I have posted enough about my love of wall decals, but let me tell you - I think I could cheat on my love of frames for my secret hidden love of wall decals... They just make your home (or car, or laptop - go to ASPTL's blog and you will see what I mean) more personal!

It's on!!! I am sooo gonna stalk this vinyl decal's blog (Lewa's Design) and find a new love... ahhhhh

Joining the lampapalooza partay!

EDITED FOR THE DIY DAY AT ASPTL!!! The awesome blog ASPTL is doing a great DIY day and I wanted to be a part of it, but I knew that some of the others joining in - well I couldn't compete with the stuff that I have recently done, sooooo I went with an oldie, but goodie!Oh and I have NOT done anything to remedy these lamps, so if you have any advice... I'm all ears!!!

From May:
The Awesome, Inspiring, and just plain Fabulous Nester is doing a Lampapalooza party where we show off our stuff! Since I recently did a post about this lamp-atrastrophe - I thought I would just copy and paste the whole shenanigan here and give you guys a great laugh!!!

Well I had a wild hair and decided that I wanted to redo some lamps that my sister gave me. Here is how they looked when I got them from her:
My word, those lamps need some TLC!

These lamps... soooooooooo not my style.. I mean look at those girls! LOL. So I took the shades off and spray painted the base of the lamp brown.

Better pic of the brown.

So then I spray painted the shades (bad blogger for not taking during photos)!!! I ended up just spray painting the shade because I attempted to take off the paper from the shade and it started to loose the shape. I painted them a creamy color first and then touched it up with the brown. Looks like cow hide or something... loving it!

Look at those fabulous lamps! -

Well I was very happy with the outcome that is.. UNTIL I turned them on! Look at this:AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! You can totally see through them! The spray painting did NOT work! ugh... what the heck am I gonna do??
What the??????

I guess I will just have to find some other shades? Any advice from all of the 3 of you that read my blog???

Ay yay yay!

No luck.

So I am on the search for some key pieces of furniture for my home and have had no such luck locating these pieces.

Basically the guest bedroom is in dire need of a bed side table. Since the room is not very big AND there is not much room for a bunch o' furniture, I only need one. See here:

You see how the bed is riiiiiiiight up to the wall... that's what I have to work with (for now) and it was free so... I'm gonna go with it!! ;) Anyway, I need a bedside table that will sit where the magazine holder is at. (I will still have the magazines in there, but in a different spot). I did however see this at ikea and for the price ($19.99) I think it just might work!

__________________________

The other piece of furniture that I am in desperate search of is a buffet type piece that I can put in the dining room. It would sure make a big difference as right now it just feels empty. I found this cute little table at a thrift for $10 and put our last name initial on it and threw it in the space, but it's still too small... check it:

You can see it just a smidge in between(below)the windows...

Here's a closeup fo the table... or is it a bench?

Here's a closer closeup. I was thinking of moving this table/bench to the guest bedroom to use it as a suitcase stand? or just extra surface to put towels/pillow or something??

I am not sure.. anyway - this is still in the works and will probably figure something out by this weekend because I get to spend time with my good friend Pbean who is also in need of some furniture.

btw... we are also doing theBride's bachelorette party this weekend, so I will probably have pics of that too!! oh and don't be late to the Tour de Casa which this week is the kids room/nurseries. Since I dont have a child, I decided that I still want to participate, so I would show you our cat JonPierre's accomodations.

Stay Tuned!

Tour de Casa!

Yup... I always check out Kelly's blog early Thursday night to see if she has posted her Show us where you live post and sure enough - it's out there AND there are already about 40 posters!! Man I am late!!!

So I grabbed my camera and off I went. Tonight tour consists of the Dining Room. Our Dining room is small and cozy and still in need of some major furniture help. I have searched and search for a buffet type piece, to no avail. I did happen to find a small table that I personalized with our last name initial and added a homemade cross (my sister knows my love of crosses and made it for me one Christmas for our Homemade Giftathon). I also put out some of our favorite plates and cloth napkins as decor. Stop on by and sit a while.

Looking in to the dining room through the living room. It looks like a really small opening, but actually it quite big. You can also see a smidge of my cross collection on the wall to the right (that's in the living room)
A closer pic of the dining room.
Looking to the dining room from the kitchen (why does this picture look so yellow??) I still need some practice with the new camera.
ahhhh, much better!
Here is the 'buffet' that I made with a small table. I got this table at an antique shoppe for $10!! You can see here a small collection of our favorite plates as well as the homemade cross that my sister made for me.
Closeup of the personalized table and plates.
In this picture you can see the entrance to the kitchen as well as my guitar. Love to sing, but can't play worth a crapito. I'll leave that to the professional musicians. Mine is more decoration than anything! LOL. Oh I keep showing you pics of the table, but never really talk about it - the table is from Ikea (don't know the model) and it was given to us by my uncle with 6 chairs. It has extenders that turn it from a 6 seater to a 10 seater! Whoa!

Closeup of the guitar. What a beauty!

Closeup of the art I got these two pictures from my aunt. They are scenes from little cafe type places. The bigger picture (on another wall) is from Garden Ridge and we totally scored because it matches so well with the others!

Look who had to get in on the action. JonPierre! He is such a cutie!

Next week's tour consists of nurseries/children's room. I guess since we don't have children, I will give you a tour of Pierre's accommodations... Stay Tuned!

Don't forget to stop by Kelly's blog to see all the wonderful dining rooms!! You just might get some ideas for your own place???

Hasta!

On my 80th post.

I am gonna catch up and get things going because this weekend we are on a 3 day Holiday weekend for Memorial Day. I love when I get 3 day weekends. I have a great Hubby and we get to spend it just chilling around the house or hanging out with family. Just good times!!

Here's what we have going on this weekend (starting with today):
Thurs:
Today is my MIL's (mother in law's) birthday, so we are taking her to dinner (probably Italian or Mexican) and then we are coming home to relax.

Frid:
Work and then going to my cousin Cheeto's graduation. She is graduating from HS tomorrow!! I am soo proud of her. She has really grown up to be a wonderful young woman and is truly finding her way. I am soo excited and I plan to embarrass the crapola out of her tomorrow night. I am gonna make signs and banners and we are gonna cheer her on! :) Here is a pic of her - she's the one on the left (isn't she just beautiful??)
Sat:
Get up late! YAY and then go shopping (thrift store!!) with hubby to look for the perfect bedside table for our guestroom. I also want to find something that I can hide the cat litter in. Right now we have a little cat litter box that has a lid, but it is not the best looking 'piece of furniture'. So we want to try and find some type of furniture that we could put it in and then cover it up (but still make it accessible to Pierre). Then go to my dad's for a bbq/game night. YUM.. I am making Colombian style rice and possibly guac and cucumber cilantro pico! - I'll post my recipes for all three later tonight.

Sun:
Get up late!! Clean out garage and organize it. Then go to gma's for a Graduation Celebration BBQ for Cheeto. I don't know what we will be getting her as a gift.... but I found a great giveaway/website that I think would make a great gift! If you go here, you can enter a giveaway for a personalized tile creation (just look at all that personalized goodness!) and I saw one that was given as a graduation gift. I just might do this and give it to her a little time later. Look at how cool this is!! I will probably order more for Christmas or other celebrations.
Mon:
Get up late and organize the home office!!! We had planned to go out of town, but there have been so many things going on that we just rather stay in town and get stuff done around the house!

If you notice, there is no mention of church this weekend. Well that would be because we took the weekend off (from Church, but NOT from God) because we had planned to go out of town and at the last minute (Mon or Tues of this week) got word of the graduation and parties and stuff, so we decided to stay in town. We will still be able to get a bunch of stuff done this weekend!

Well that is about it... Stay tuned for tomorrow Tour De Casa... lol.. ok ok.. it's Show us Where you live Fridays at Kelly's and we are showing off our Dining Rooms!!

Hasta!

Sick,Tired, Busy, Weekend....

Ugh... So Friday.. I left work early because I was just out of it. I went to the dr and had some tests done (they took 6 tubes of blood) and I have a bruise from where they took blood - um.. I never get a bruise.. :(

So needless to say, I have not been myself lately!

Though I did try and get some stuff done around the house. Don't get me wrong - I love to be a bum! It's in my nature, but I just had to get something done.

Let me show you first what I got as I came home from the dr's office (after I picked up some chicken soup). Thebride's wedding is coming up (June 13) and I am eagerly waiting for family to come down and stay with us, so I need to get the guest room in tip top shape to better accomodate them. So I was in search of a bedside table and maybe a suitcase holder type thing. So I stopped in one of my favorite stores (thrift store) and did not find anything in my price range to fit the bill, but I did get the following:
Such cute lamp shades... I didn't know what to do with them, but I saw a post on another blog (I believe it was on the Nester's blog) and saw that she did something cute, so I tried it:

You take a candle stick holder and a candlestick, throw that lampshade on top and viola, instant romance! Isn't it just darling!! I will post more pics of where I put them when Kelly gets to that place on the tour!
Ahhhh.. my love affair with frames never ends!! I just love frames. Look at that one on the top left.. just a beauty!
*********************
Well then I had a wild hair and decided that I wanted to redo some lamps that my sister gave me. Here is how they looked when I got them from her:
these are the lamps.. so not my style.. I mean look at those girls! LOL.

So I took the shades off and spray painted them brown.

So then I spray painted the shades because well if I took the paper off the shade, I would loose the shape. Looks like cow hide or something... loving it!
a farther look at the lamps! - Well I was very happy with the outcome that is.. UNTIL I turned them on! Look at this:
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! you can totally see through them! The spray painting did NOT work! ugh... what the heck am I gonna do?? I guess I will just have to find some other shades? Any advice from all of the 3 of you that read my blog???
*********************
Ok.. so after that semi disaster, I tried my hand at spray painting again. This time, I saw a great idea on a bio on my fav website thenest.com. I don't remember the bio, but the idea was to spray paint the builder basic brass door knobs that come with your house that you just can't justify paying money out to buy new ones (just yet). So onward I went:

I went with the least used doorknob in the house (the door to the garage) that way, if it looks bad, I won't be embarrased too much because not many people use it!
Taped all around it and covered the door to avoid getting it prayed. Sprayed it with a metallic silver (to look like the front door knob) and went to town!
Looks good huh?!?! It totally worked and I am in love with the results!! So 1 down 543 more to go!! LOL.. ok maybe not 543, but close! like 19 or something. ugh.. anyway.. I love the end result, so I know it will look good!
***************************************
ok.. so one last thing and then I am out, for like a month - I kid, I kid... but I did get a lot done.. even though I was feeling crappy. I guess I just didn't want to sit in front of the tv all day.. ugh.. but I didn't want to go out either.
So you may remember this post where I talked openly about my procastination at it's fullest potential, right??? Well I finally told hubby it was do or die time... So we got this baby:
In case you dont know what it is.. it's this deal called the Point and Paint. Basically, it's suppose to be this awesome product to help you paint a room "in less than an hour" - well... I have to say, it did make our lives easier and I actually liked using it... the only thing is that it did not take us an hour - but more like 2 1/2. It's funny because we did not tape anywhere (trim, etc) except around one in set window that we did not want to fully paint and two of our walls are higher than the other (vaulted) so I am thinking, had it been a regular sized room with no taping at all.. we could have quite possibly finished painting in less than an hour. The hubby used the bigger one and I used the small one and off we went. We turned this:
Into this:
(the blinds are pushed out because our cat Pierre likes to go in there to look at things out of the window and sit in the sun!)
I need ideas for something above the bed! ugh... I have no idea what I want to do? Any suggestions??
These were the old paintings in the room, but I taped them off and using the same paint in the room, painted stripes on them... I really like how they turned out!
*****************************
All in all it was a Sick,Tired, Busy, Weekend and I am really happy with how the room turned out, even though I really didn't enjoy it much feeling under the weather...
I didn't even make it to church (hubby did) because I couldn't get out of bed... ugh. not a good feeling!! Hopefully I can get the test results today. That would be great!
Hasta!
