Oh and I have NOT done anything to remedy these lamps, so if you have any advice... I'm all ears!!! From May:
The Awesome, Inspiring, and just plain Fabulous Nester is doing a Lampapalooza party where we show off our stuff! Since I recently did a post about this lamp-atrastrophe - I thought I would just copy and paste the whole shenanigan here and give you guys a great laugh!!!
Well I had a wild hair and decided that I wanted to redo some lamps that my sister gave me. Here is how they looked when I got them from her:

These lamps... soooooooooo not my style.. I mean look at those girls! LOL. 
So I took the shades off and spray painted the base of the lamp brown.

So then I spray painted the shades (bad blogger for not taking during photos)!!! I ended up just spray painting the shade because I attempted to take off the paper from the shade and it started to loose the shape. I painted them a creamy color first and then touched it up with the brown. Looks like cow hide or something... loving it!

Well I was very happy with the outcome that is.. UNTIL I turned them on! Look at this:AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! You can totally see through them! The spray painting did NOT work! ugh... what the heck am I gonna do??
What the??????
I guess I will just have to find some other shades? Any advice from all of the 3 of you that read my blog???

All is not lost. I have painted lampshades for clients. The trick is many, many, many coats. I used a foam brush and probably did 6-8 coats to cover so the light does not shine through. Hope his helps.

I'm so glad that someone else has projects that don't always turn out as expected! I would say cover them in fabric. Make a template out of paper, cut it out, glue it on. Good luck!
Maybe some thick fabric like demin? Ohhhh, old jeans would be a great trick, maybe with the frayed ends or something. You could even layer it if need be. Surely you have some old, worn out jeans (or you can get them dirt cheap at a yard sale).
I think you are very brave to try to paint those bad boys. I would never have even tried. Keep at it, you'll get it the way you want it.
This is really really funny. Have you heard of the blog craft fail? Try googling it...
What about covering the shade with fabric?
Best post in all of lampapalooza! I'm laughing so hard :-) I was just going to suggest some blackout type fabric but that would soft of defeat the purpose of a lamp LOL. How about using a few layers of scrapbooking paper? Good luck and can't wait to see what you come up with.

LOL...those are some unique lamps you have there! Um...I have no experience with recovering or repainting lamps, so I'll leave that up to the professionals..and sit here and chuckle :)
Funny!!! Finally, someone who admits they are not perfect!!! I would definitely cover with fabric or try spray painting many more coats. I'm still laughing though. Thanks for the laugh, I needed that!!!
Um, am I the only one that sorta liked the shades before? I love the 40s pinup art/photography. My middle son has it in his room, his 18 YO sister hates it and mom likes it. Covered up, sexy, innocent and fun. Not like the stuff they use now...how about a little secretiveness?

YES - Cover those bad boys with fabric using hot glue!! Just google 'cover lamp shade with fabric' and you'll get all kinds of links to show you how - if you feel REALLY sassy you could even hot glue some trim (with tassels??) around the bottom!
They almost look like candles!
You could paint the inside, or cover with a dark fabric inside to hide the girls.
Lol, those shades are so funny! I would cover them with scrapbook paper or fabric. Maybe a couple layers to cover up those pin-up girls?
I've never recovered (with paint or anything else) a lampshade before, so I have absolutely no advice. I just have to thank you for posting this. I am telling you, someone should host a craft fail party. I'd have about eleventy bajillion links to put up. This cracked me right the heck up!

LMAO! Hilarious, and I just had to add to the three people reading this. :) I had the same problem with some lamp shades, thought I'd spray them, but ended up making it look like they had a spotted disease of some sort. I have no idea to remedy this, but thanks for reminding me to look again!
